St Louis Arch National Park

On May 5, 2022, we visited the St Louis Arch National Park.  The area includes the Old Court House and the St Louis Basilica Catholic Church (i.e., the Old Cathedral).  The Arch grounds seemed to flow into the city of St Louis and were well maintained.  It was a very relaxing walking in the park.  Lots of green grass tall trees and perfect landscaping.

After exploring the grounds, a walk through the underground museum was interesting.  A full history of St. Louis from its very beginning all the way through current times is represented in the museum.  We spent about an hour reading and viewing all the exhibits.  Some cool artifacts are presented and everyone will learn something about history that you did not know before.  We sure did.     

Of course, a trip to the top of the Arch is a must and while a slow ride up is most unique.  Once at the top the views are stunning, as the Arch is the highest structure in the state of Missouri.  The views from high up inside the top of the Arch are well worth the price and the ride up.  After the trip to the top, we recommend watching the movie documentary on how the Arch was built. 

After the museum, a short walk toward the Mississippi River will lead you to the long, wide steps down to Front Street. From the top of the Arch grounds, wide concrete steps fan out overlooking Front Street.  There was a complete view of the Mississippi River on one side and the towering Arch on the other. 

 It was kind of cool to sit on the steps overlooking the river.  You can people watch or look at the river traffic with mostly barges going up and down the river. 

Just on the edge of the park was the Old Cathedral Catholic Church.  The Church itself was beautiful inside and out and I recommend going inside.  There are regular masses and tours most days during the week.  On the north side of the park was the historic Eads Bridge which is also a must see.
